Mayor M.J. Ravikumar and DC D. Randeep bicycling as part of Mysuru Heritage tour

Mysuru: The District Administration and Department of Heritage, Archaeology and Museums have made all efforts to make this Dasara a unique one introducing heritage as the theme and showcasing the heritage structures.

As part of the guided tour, on the third day today, a few of the citizens of Mysuru were introduced to the heritage structures, while on the ride on the popular Trin Trin bicycles, the first of its kind facility in the country.

Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep and Mayor M.J. Ravikumar flagged of the heritage Trin Trin ride, here this morning from the Doddagadiyara near the Town Hall. The novelty this time was the Deputy Commissioner himself taking a ride on the Trin Trin up to his office and gaining knowledge about the DC office, a heritage structure and bronze statue of Sir James Davidson Gordon facing Devaraj Urs Road,  who served as the Chief Commissioner to Mysore and Coorg from 1879 to 1881.  Mayor Ravikumar also accompanied the DC.

There were 70 cyclists in all ranging from a 11-year-old sixth standard student Annapoorneswari to a 88-year-old retired postmaster from N.R. Mohalla N. Sosale Veeraiah.

The enthusiastic Trin Trin cyclists passed through Doddagadiyar, Chamaraja Circle, Palace, K.R. Circle, Jaganmohan Palace,Junior Maharani’s College, Niranjan Ashram, Padmalaya, Yuvaraja College, Maharaja College, Oriental Research Institute, Crawford Hall and DC office.

The cyclists were all clad in caps and t-shirts provided by the organisers of the event. One of the guides Prof. N.S. Rangaraju, former professor at University of Mysore, Department of Ancient History and Archaeology guided them through various heritage structures that the city is known for.

The cyclists had a free ride and all they had to do was link their card to aadhar card. This is a good way to see the heritage structures. Though we pass by many of these lovely monuments we do not know its importance, said one of the cyclists. After the heritage walk and the Jawa Motorcylce ride, today viewing heritage structures on bicycles concluded the introduction of heritage structures to the people of the city.
