Bengaluru: Housing Minister U.T. Khader has announced that identification of the homeless and shelterless under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been extended till July 30.
Speaking at the Legislative Assembly here yesterday, Khader said authorities had identified 15 lakh homeless families in the ongoing survey in the past two months.
Pointing out that the survey is being monitored by Taluk Panchayat EO and ZP CEO, the Minister said that the State government is extending a subsidy of Rs. 1.20 lakh under Basava Housing scheme.
Earlier, BJP MLAs K.G. Bopaiah, Araga Gnanendra and others highlighted the problems in the Housing Sector.
Speaker Ramesh Kumar, who intervened, said that Karnataka’s policy on providing housing for the poor needs to be reviewed.
“The entire housing policy should be reviewed and reworked to ensure all the poor get shelter,” Kumar said.
