K.R. Pet: Unable to repay the loans he had taken to sink borewells and to grow crops, a farmer committed suicide by hanging self at the pump house in his farm at Doddasomanahalli in the taluk.
The deceased farmer is Bhadregowda (48) of Doddasomanahalli. Bhadregowda had taken Rs.1.5 lakh loan from State Bank of India, Aghalaya Branch, Rs.80,000 from Primary Agricultural Credit Co-operative Society, Aghalaya and Rs.4 lakh from private financiers.
Bhadregowda, who owned two-and-a-half acre land, had got three borewells sunk in his land which did not yield water and even the ragi crop he had grown had withered.
Meanwhile, private financiers began to harass him for repayment of loans. Depressed over this, Bhardregowda hanged himself at the pump house in his agricultural land.
He leaves behind his aged mother, wife and two children.
His wife Mamata has lodged a complaint with K.R. Police.
Aghalaya Gram Panchayat President Dhananjaya, Aghalaya Society President Kumar, D.S. Nagendra and others visited the house of the deceased and consoled the family members.
