Sir,
Every year the Dasara Committee receives brickbats and bouquets after the completion of Dasara festival. It is definitely not an easy task to conduct the Dasara activities considering the number of vehicles and the floating population in Mysuru, during Dasara days.
The need of the hour is to establish a dedicated Dasara Authority, under the Chairmanship of either a KAS Officer or an IAS Officer and inviting members from various Associations having a stake in Dasara activities. Though there has been a long-pending demand to have a dedicated Dasara Authority, the State Government is not considering this request seriously — may be due to some obvious reasons to placate the local elected representatives.
A dedicated Dasara Authority, under an able officer can plan all the activities well in advance, including the black topping of the roads and curb the power games played by local politicians in getting preferential treatment for themselves, their family and their cronies. Over a period of time, it has become difficult for a common man to procure tickets to watch various Dasara programmes because a major chunk of the tickets are with the local politicians.
