Mysuru: The National Service Scheme, National Institute of Engineering-Unit (NSS-NIE Unit), in association with Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (NIE-CREST), conducted a programme on ‘Waste Management in School Campus’ here recently in four schools — Government High School, N.R. Mohalla, Government High School, Rajendranagar, Manasagangothri High School, Manasagangothri Campus and Sharada Government High School, Kanakagiri.
The prog. included awareness on waste management with emphasis on conversion of dry and wet waste to compost with simple techniques and installation of Aerobic Composter and demonstration of its operation.
Shamsundar, Head, NIE-CREST and his team, along with V. Vikram Athreya, NSS Officer, NIE unit, Staff and student volunteers of NIE College, took part in the programme. About 40 student volunteers demonstrated to the school students on composting and managing wet waste within the school campus.
The 200 litre capacity Aerobic Composters, which were fabricated by the students of NIE, was donated to the schools. The staff and students of the schools were enthusiastic in learning the process of waste management in their school campus which was witnessed by the interest shown by them in the course of the programme.
CMCA (Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness, Mysuru) and Citizens Forum for Swachh Mysuru also supported the event.
