Dengue, insect-borne diseases: DOs & Don’ts

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Health and Family Welfare has announced the individual safety measures to be taken as a precaution to check the production of larvae of mosquitoes and adopt regulatory steps to prevent the possibilities of being infected with dengue fever and other insect-bone diseases.

All the water containers including water tanks, drums, barrels, air cooler and others be cleaned and washed once in a week, before refilling the containers with water. In the case of water containers like tanks and drums that cannot be emptied, they should be closed with a lid to prevent mosquitoes. The accumulation of water should be avoided in used tyres, coconut shells, tree holes, flower pots, broken bottles, littered plastic cups and bottles, but be disposed in an effective way.

Safety measures like using mosquito repellent and medicated mosquito nets should be adopted, along with wearing full-sleeve shirt to avoid mosquito bite, according to a release by the District Vector Borne Diseases Control Officer.
