Dengue positivity rate down in Mysuru: DHO

Mysore/Mysuru: With the District Administration taking appropriate measures to check the spread of the deadly disease, the positivity rate for dengue has come down to 11 percent from 17 percent in a matter of a few days.

According to District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. P.C. Kumaraswamy, there are 24 active cases in the district as of the evening of July 11.

Pointing out that blood samples of more than 4,500 suspects in the district have been tested since January this year, he said that 557 people tested positive for the deadly dengue virus, and all of them were treated.

Reiterating that there are 24 active cases at present, he said that the health authorities have collected blood samples from 32 percent of the population, which is much above the 5-10 percent suggested in the event of an outbreak.

As such, dengue cases are detected much earlier in the district, which helps significantly in treating the disease more effectively.

Referring to the recent death of a Jayadeva Hospital staff member reportedly due to dengue, Dr. Kumaraswamy said they are waiting for the death audit report. He further mentioned that dengue patients being treated at K.R. Hospital are not only from Mysuru district but from other districts as well.
