Deploy Traffic Wardens at non-functional signals

Traffic signal lights installed at Kautilya Circle near Crawford Hall in city.

Sir,

Many complaints are pouring in from readers regarding non-functional traffic signal lights at several junctions in Mysuru city, likely due to technical or other issues. These issues must be addressed immediately, as they cause confusion and panic among road users.

Uniformed Policemen are also conducting vehicle checks on Temple Road, near V.V. Puram Police Station. When permission is granted by higher authorities for crime Police Stations to check vehicles for traffic violations and documents, isn’t it also the responsibility of the Police to ensure the safety of people?

Why can’t the same uniformed Policemen be assigned to manage traffic when signal lights are not functioning? The collection of penalties for traffic violations should not be their sole focus. It would greatly benefit road users if a Cop or Traffic Warden is posted at non-functional traffic signals, especially during peak hours.

With Dasara fast approaching, one hopes the Police will ensure that all traffic signals across the city are operational.
