Desecration of Dr. Ambedkar’ portrait: Tension at N’gud village

Nanjangud: Tension prevailed in Hosuru Village in Nanjangud Taluk yesterday following the desecration of Baba Saheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s portrait.

The situation has now been brought under control and additional forces have been rushed there. Senior Police officers are monitoring the situation.

According to Police, the two groups in the village had difference of opinion over a trivial issue and on Sunday, they held a meeting to resolve the imbroglio. Tense moments were witnessed at the meeting as the two groups manhandled each other. Village elders, however, intervened and diffused the situation.

Yesterday night, some miscreants desecrated the portrait of Dr. Ambedkar that was a part of the signboard that had the name of “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Yuvaka Sangha” and this led to tense moments as the group  of villagers pointed fingers at each other.

The Police were informed and forces from District Armed Reserve have been rushed to Hosuru.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sujeetha and Circle Inspector Gopalakrishna visited the spot and are monitoring the situation.

Police said that cases will be registered against the miscreants based on the complaint given by villagers.
