Mysore/Mysuru: Dalit Sangharsha Smithi (DSS), Mysuru District Unit, held a protest in front of Mysuru Taluk Office here on Thursday demanding the authorities to provide basic amenities to residents of Destitute Colony in Hebbal.
Speaking on the occasion, State Organising Secretary K. Nanjappa Basavagudi said that the colony was located in survey number 151 belonging Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) where people are living in about 80 huts for the past 45 years.
“During 2009, the Karnataka Slum Development Board relocated about 34 families in Jnanaloka in B.M. Sri Nagar leaving out the rest of the families.
The Taluk Administration, which has taken up the survey works, has not informed the residents which has deprived the needy of their rights,” he alleged.
On receiving the memorandum, Tahsildar Mahesh assured the protesters of visiting area in person to review the situation to help the residents of the colony.
DSS State Convenor Ningaraj Malladi, C. Mohan Kumar Chandrakumar, Kuppaswamy, Lokesh, Ramkumar, Mangalamma, Sarojamma and colony residents took part in the protest.
