Mysuru: Humans should develop and show love and care for animals as every living being has an equal right to live, said R. Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor, National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, here recently.
He was speaking after inaugurating a day-long workshop on ‘Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ jointly organised by JSS Law College and NLSIU, at JSS Law College premises in city.
Stating that all living beings including animals had a role to play in sustaining ecology, Venkata Rao urged the Law professionals to cultivate compassion towards animals and added that animals must not be compared with human beings as it was also a violation.
Speaking on the occasion, National Biodiversity Authority Member M.K. Ramesh stressed for the need to practice Animal Welfare Law in Law Colleges and said that it must be added as an integral part of the curriculum.
JSS Law College Chief Executive Officer Prof. K.S. Suresh, Principal M.M. Prabhuswamy, NLSIU Associate Professor Dr. Sairam Bhat and others were present on the occasion.
