Dewan Rangacharlu indeed needs a statue

Sir,

Prof. AVN’s article “Remembering Dewan C.V. Rangacharlu” with the editorial note is most welcome (SOM dated June 19). I had met a close relative of Rangacharlu fifty years back in Hyderabad who had expressed similar sentiments that was much needed to remember the late Dewan who introduced democratic representative assembly in the State and also was responsible for women’s education and development of Railways.

Mysore has long been a centre of ancient wisdom in learning and administration and some of its Kings, Dewans and Administrators were not merely patrons but were themselves great human beings of eminence. This is reflected in the large number of educational institutions, industries and famous commercial institutions, many of them for the first time in the country.

It is but appropriate that the State takes cognisance and that a statue of the great Dewan is installed in front of Vidhana Soudha or at an appropriate place in Mysuru.
