Dhanurvainika Brahma Award to Vid. H.K. Narasimha Murthy

Mysuru/Mysore:  In memory of the Legendary Violin Maestro  Piteelu Chowdaiah on his 52nd death anniversary, Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha and Piteelu Chowdaiah Samsmarana Vedike has organised a function to honour Vid. H.K. Narasimha Murthy with the title Dhanurvainika Brahma along with a cash prize on Sunday (Jan. 19) at 5.30 pm at the Sabha premises on JLB Road in city.

Vid. Narasimha Murthy along with Sindhu Suchetan and Pruthvi Bhaskar will present  a Violin Trio on the occasion. G.S. Ramanujan and Sharath Kaushik will accompany them on mridanga and ghata respectively.

H.K. Narasimha Murthy is a senior and leading violinist hailing from Mysuru.  Regarded both as an extremely able performer and as a highly accomplished teacher, Narasimha Murthy’s acumen was shaped by his training in the revered Parur school of violin under Parur Sundaram Iyer and later from his illustrious sons  M.S. Anantharaman and the legendary M.S. Gopalakrishnan. 

 He has served  as Staff Artiste at AIR, Mysore for nearly four decades, earning its ‘A-Top’ grade. He has enriched music concerts with his violin accompaniment. His playing technique is marked by great dexterity and unfailing support to the main musician. He is a veritable bridge between the past and present generations of musicians  having accompanied a long list of unforgettable stalwarts of yesteryear, including Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer, Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, D.K.Pattamal, D.K. Jayaraman, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, K.J.Yesudas, T.V. Shankaranarayan and the Bombay Sisters, with whom he travelled across the globe. 

The lofty credentials of ‘HKN Sir’, as he is popularly and respectfully known, continue to serve posterity, especially the Parur style of violin, through his dedicated teaching. He is one of those rare combinations of a very distinguished performer and an exceptional Guru. He has trained a large number of very competent violinists like H.N. Bhaskar, Mysore Srikanth and H.M. Smitha who have already established their names in the present competitive world of music.
