The former Mayors said that many poor families have come to the streets due to the illegal matka business and added that those running the illegal racket have made good money and were roaming freely. They alleged that though the Police know all these, they were not taking any action against such illegal activities.
They also said about the menace caused by drunkards and drug addicts, who harass women and girls and alleged that though several requests were made to the Police, no action were taken. They said that a wine store on Azeez Sait Double Road opens from 10 am to 11 pm and those who consume liquor at this wine store behave indecently with women travelling on the road.
Continuing, they said that many minors have fallen prey to drugs especially inhaling solutions used to patch punctures and added that these minors when high on solutions threaten senior citizens who come for walking with knives and blades and snatch their valuables.
When they catch these minors and hand them over to the Police, the minors come out on Station Bail and again involve in such activities, they said and questioned, who will stop such illegal activities?
When the Police receive information on such illegal activities, they rush to the stop in their PCR vehicle by sounding the siren which alerts those involved in illegal activities who manage to flee from the spot and again come back when the Police return, they said and added how can the residents live peacefully if such illegal activities are not brought under control.
The delegation comprising former Mayors and others appealed the Police to take stringent action against such illegal activities and extended their full co-operation with the Police in curbing such illegal activities.
