Mysuru: A meeting was held on Monday last at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC’s) office here under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner C.L. Ananda to discuss on points to celebrate various Jayantis on a meaningful note.
Ananda said that a function will be organised on Apr. 26 at 11 am at Kalamandira here to mark Mahaveer Jayanti.
He further said that a programme will be organised at the same time and venue on Apr. 29 to mark Basava Jayanti. Earlier to that, the statue of Basavanna at Gun House Circle would be garlanded at 9.30 am. Lokesh of Federation of Basava Samithis who was present at the meeting said that a procession would be taken out from the statue premises on Apr. 28 at 5 pm and appealed the District Administration to participate in the event and deploy folk troupes.
He added that an invitation has been extended to Jnanpith awardee Prof. Chandrashekar Kambara to deliver a lecture on the occasion. Channappa, Assistant Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, disclosed at the meeting that a programme has been organised on Apr. 25 at 11 am at Maneyangala in Kalamandira premises to mark Siddarameshwara Jayanti.
The meeting also decided to organise a programme on May 6 to mark Devara Dasimayya Jayanti. Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman Siddaraju, MUDA Secretary Savitha and office-bearers of various organisations attended the meeting.
At another meeting held on Wednesday at DC’s office it was decided to celebrate Bhagiratha Jayanti on May 2 at 11 am under the auspices of the District Administration and other organisations.
Prior to the stage programme at Kalamandira, a procession will be taken out from Palace Anjaneyaswamy temple at 9. 30 am passing through KR Circle and DD Urs Road.
There will be a sugama sangeetha programme at 10 am at Kalamandira.
The meeting decided to invite MCC Zonal Assistant Officer A.T. Somashekarappa and Commercial Tax Department Joint Commissioner D. Jagannath Sagar of Bengaluru to deliver lectures on the occasion.
