Mysuru: The first district-level Mahila Kannada Sahitya Sammelana organised by District Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) will be held on Jan. 23 at Maharani’s Arts College in city.
Addressing a press conference here this morning, District KSP President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna said the Sammelana President Dr. Y.C. Bhanumathi will be brought to the venue in a specially decorated vehicle after taking out a procession at 8 am.
The procession, which will be flagged off by ZP In-charge President S.R. Nandeesh will pass through Metropole Circle, Shivarampet, Dufferin Clock Tower, D. Devaraj Urs Road and will culminate at Maharani’s Arts College for Women. The procession will be accompanied by various folk troupes.
District Minister G.T. Devegowda will inaugurate the Sammelana at 11 am on that day. Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath will release a book ‘Bhavantharala’ on the occasion. Principal of Maharani’s Arts College Prof. C.H. Prakash, Ministers S.R. Mahesh and C.S Puttaraju, MLAs L. Nagendra and Tanveer Sait, MP Pratap Simha, Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak Sanskrit University Dr. Padma Shekar and others will take part.
Experts will deliberate on various subjects like contributions of women for the growth of Kannada literature, women empowerment and challenges and other topics at the seminar organised on the occasion. Women poets meet will be held later.
About 3,000 people including students, women litterateurs, volunteers will take part in the event.
The valedictory programme will be held at 4 pm. Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies Professor Dr. Preethi Shrimandar Kumar will deliver the valedictory address.
The organisers will also felicitate 14 outstanding women personalities like Dr. B.S. Rukkamma, Bhagirathi Bai Kadam, Dr. Vasundhara Doreswamy, Mangala Satyan, Jayalakshmi Marichamaiah, Shantha Jagadeesh, Hemalatha Nijaguna, T.K Indubai, M.A. Neelambika, M.A. Hemalatha, Dr. J. Kamala Raman, Radha Mallappa and T. Sowmya Rani.
Former President of District Kannada Sahitya Parishat M. Chandrashekar, KSP Women Unit President M.N. Latha Mohan, Maharani’s Arts College Principal C.H. Prakash and others were present during the press meet.
