District-level Dasara Sports-2025: Over 1,500 athletes vie for top spots

Mysuru: Over 1,500 athletes from various taluks of Mysuru district are participating in the two-day District-level Dasara Sports-2025, which kicked off in the city this morning.

The competitions are being held across five venues — Chamundi Vihar Stadium, Teresian College, University of Mysore Sports Pavilion, MTC Club in Vidyaranyapuram and Manasagangothri Indoor Stadium.

The event was inaugurated at Chamundi Vihar Stadium by MLA Tanveer Sait, who released balloons and pigeons to mark the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Sait highlighted the significance of Dasara Sports, calling it a platform for athletes to showcase their talent and aim for selection to represent Mysuru district at the State-level Dasara Sports, scheduled to begin on Sept. 22.

“Mysuru has long been a hub for nurturing sporting talent, with year-round events and the infrastructure needed to groom athletes,” he said.

 “I urge participants to embrace both victory and defeat with equal spirit, stay resilient and continue giving their best to rise to the national and international stage,” Sait added.

Athletics – Men: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m, and 10,000m running races, long jump, high jump, shot put, triple jump, javelin throw, discus throw, 110m hurdles, 4×100m relay and 4×400m relay.

Athletics – Women: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, and 3,000m running races, long jump, high jump, shot put, triple jump, javelin throw, discus throw, 100m hurdles, 4×100m relay and 4×400m relay.

S. Shashank Gowda of Mysuru taluk seen crossing the finishing line to emerge victorious in the 800 mts run at the District-level Dasara Sports Meet at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in city this morning. Shashank completed the race with a timing of 2:08.28 secs. Meanwhile, Prashanth of K.R. Nagar (2:12.51 sec) and Abhishek of Hunsur (2:15.16 sec) secured second and third positions respectively.

In addition to athletics, competitions in volleyball, football, kho-kho, kabaddi, basketball, wrestling, badminton, hockey, handball, table tennis, throwball, ball badminton, yogasana, netball, and swimming will also be held.

Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) Assistant Director Bhaskar Nayak, coaches, referees and other officials were present during the inauguration.
