Mysore/Mysuru: District-in charge Minister S.T. Somashekar has written to State Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri seeking installation of the portraits of Chamarajendra Wadiyar X, the 23rd Maharaja of Mysuru and Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, in Vidhana Sabha Hall.
In his letter written on Wed-nesday, Somashekar said that the installation of a portrait of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in the Legislative Council is most welcome.
Recalling the role of the erstwhile Mysore Maharajas in the all-round development of the State, Somashekar said that the contribution of Chamarajendra Wadiyar X and Nalwadi were outstanding.
Pointing out that Chamaraj-endra Wadiyar X conceptualised Prajapratinidhi Sabha in 1881, he said that Nalwadi took this forward and established the Sabha in 1923. He said that Nalwadi gave Democracy its true meaning by giving equal opportunities to all sections, irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
Recollecting the projects executed by Nalwadi, the Minister said that KRS Dam, railway networks, social justice schemes and such other welfare schemes were the vision of Nalwadi.
As such, it would be very much apt if the portraits of the two erstwhile Maharajas are installed in the Vidhana Sabha Hall, he said and added that by doing so it will be a befitting tribute to the erstwhile Mysore Maharajas.
