Dividends of diversity in Democracy

Equality in public domain among the land’s masses and liberty (to speak subject to certain universally acceptable conditions and act in a manner of not causing both physical and mental hurt to anybody as well as not violative of the land’s laws) are unarguably features of orderly democracy. These features as well as orderliness of our democracy have currently got morphed into transforming its global image that one finds it embarrassing to talk about in circles of citizens entertaining dreams of reaping rich dividends while extolling diversity in the country’s  population on its social, economic, religious, linguistic, ethnic, cultural and other  sides of human profile. The denizens of the forests too are marked with a set of diversities but they seem to be in a state of social equilibrium unlike us, the homosapiens.

Reading between the lines of copiously available ancient literature attributed to chroniclers, scholars, philosophers, social reformers, writers, both identified and anonymous (apourusheya such as the Vedas), one can reasonably infer that the country’s generations of the distant past lived in a manner holding aloft the now-tom-tommed inclusiveness. Although we hear from many persons in public life calling for achieving an inclusive society, given the goings on in our times, less said about it the better.

Between the era of a distant past that the land witnessed life of people in perfect harmony, serving as a model for inclusive society and the present era bugged by both disrupted societal harmony and adrift in achieving an inclusive society, a lot of water has flowed as it were, prompting one to ponder over the factors behind this undesirable makeover. Knowledge of rocket science is not needed to become aware of the acts and attitudes of people occupying positions in the government from where they are wielding the evil influence on the masses, invariably in a state of disarray, disillusion and distress.

The debate on issues relevant to the task of achieving an inclusive society, a virtual pipe dream, in the face of both provisions in our democratic set up and wide diversity in the land’s population, takes us to take a close look at how these factors have impacted a) productivity of the workforce and b) ambience in workplaces, particularly offices of administration, read government, telling on the nation losing valuable dividends of the democracy, marked by diversity without parallel in any other country worldwide.
