It was double delight for city’s young martial artist Deia Urs as she won gold medal in both U-21 years individual Kata and Individual Female Open Kata Grand Championship, organised by Temple of Martial Arts Okinawan Shotokan Karate Do Association, Bengaluru at V.V. Convention Hall, Uttharahalli Main road in Bengaluru, here recently.
In the below 21 years individual Kata, Deia defeated Chitrashree of Davanagere 5-0 in the finals to emerge victorious and in the Individual Female Open Kata Championship she defeated Keerthy of Bengaluru 5-0 to win the grand championship. In the quarter-final, she defeated Saakshi of Bengaluru 5-0 and Nanditha of Belagavi 5-0 in the semi-finals.
Deia Urs is currently ranked No.1 in the State and No.2 in country in both U-21 years and Senior Individual Female Kata category in the State. A journalism student, she has 3rd Degree Black Belt and is trained by her father Srinath Urs an accredited and certified karate kata coach. Both practice under All India Shito Ryu Karate Do Union President Kyoshi C. S. Arun Machaiah and Shuko Kai Karate Do of India Head Shihan E.S. Kumar.
