Double murder: Court sentences auto driver to life imprisonment

Mysuru: The 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced Yogesh, an autorickshaw driver, to life imprisonment for the murder of two individuals following a road accident on May 24, 2024, at Kotehundi village on H.D. Kote Road.

The incident occurred when Yogesh, driving a passenger auto (KA-09-D-4567), abruptly turned right without signalling, colliding with a goods vehicle (KA-09-C-9552) driven by T. Manjunath.

The accident caused damage to the goods vehicle, prompting Manjunath and his associate R. Manjunath, to confront Yogesh and demand compensation for repairs.

The argument escalated into a heated altercation, during which Yogesh’s mother intervened, urging the men to stop fighting with her son. However, in a fit of rage, Yogesh pulled out a knife and stabbed R. Manjunath in the chest and T. Manjunath in the stomach. Both succumbed to their injuries.

Inspector K. Jeevan of Jayapura Police Station conducted investigation and filed a charge sheet against Yogesh. During the trial, Judge Gururaj Somakkalavar reviewed the evidence presented by Public Prosecutor B.E. Yogeshwar and found Yogesh guilty of the crime.

Yogesh was sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 1,000 under Section 504 of the IPC for intentional insult and provocation. Additionally, he received life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000 under Section 302 of the IPC for the murders.
