Mysuru: The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000 for harassing his wife for dowry, which led to her committing suicide.
The man, who was sentenced has been identified as Munavar Khan, a resident of K.R. Nagar.
It is reported that Munavar Khan had married one Razia Banu on Aug. 27, 2008 and he was given Rs. 75,000 cash and two gold finger rings weighing five grams each at the time of marriage.
Later, Munavar began to harass Razia to get more dowry, following which Razia became depressed and ended her life by hanging herself.
K.R. Nagar Police, who had registered a case in this regard had submitted a charge-sheet against Munavar to the Court.
Judge Susheela, who heard the argument, found Munavar guilty and sentenced him to imprisonment besides levying a fine on him. Public Prosecutor Nagappa C. Nakman argued for the Government.
