Dr. Charishma Kaliyanda, hailing from Kodagu, has been elected as Councillor of City of Liverpool in Sydney, Australia.
A native of Kolakeri near Napoklu in Kodagu district, Dr. Charishma is the daughter of Kaliyanda Madappa (Jaya) and Bhanumathi (daughter of Chottera Kaverappa) couple. At present, her entire family is based in Liverpool City.
Born on Dec. 2, 1987, Dr. Charishma completed her education in Bengaluru and later settled down at Liverpool in Sydney. She is now an Australian citizen.
A registered Occupational Therapist, Dr. Charishma, who currently works with STEM professionals to build and improve their skills, entered politics by joining Labour Party.
She had contested the Council polls two years ago but lost by a narrow margin.
Recently, top leaders of Labour Party unanimously elected her as Liverpool City’s Councillor from South Ward. With this election, Dr. Charishma is also likely to become the Mayor of the city in the near future.
This is her first term on Liverpool Council and Charishma looks forward to working with the community to make Liverpool the best place to live and work.
Dr. Charishma’s brother Tarun Thimmaya’s family too is settled in Liverpool City.
