Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. Hunthrike Shekar Shetty, former Professor and Chairman, Department of Biotechnology, University of Mysore (UoM), was conferred the prestigious Raja Ramanna Award (for the year 2019) instituted by Karnataka State Science and Technology Academy, Ministry of Information and Technology and Biotechnology, Government of Karnataka.
This award is conferred annually to eminent scientists who have contributed significantly to the advancement of science and science education.
Dr. Shetty, currently working as Lifetime Honorary Distinguished Professor at UoM, has contribution of over 4 decades of research in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology and establishment of Biotechnology Education at the University since 1992. A recipient of many prestigious awards and honoured with Fellowships of three Science Academies, he is still serving in many scientific bodies.
The award was conferred on Dr. Shetty by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru recently. The event was attended by Minister for Science and Technology, ITBT Dr. C. N. Ashwathnarayan, Bharat Ratna Prof. CNR Rao, Dr. Gowindan Rangarajan, Director of IISc. and Dr. Sivakumar, former Chairman, ISRO.
