Mysuru: Dr. S.K. Shivakumar (55), Assistant Professor of the Forensic Science Department at Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI), passed away last night following a cardiac arrest.
A resident of Vijayanagar 4th Stage in city, he leaves behind his wife, one son, one daughter and a host of relatives, friends, colleagues and students.
Last rites were performed at Muktidhama in Vijayanagar 4th Stage this noon.
Dr. Shivakumar had gone to Hassan Court yesterday morning to give witness in a case, where he developed severe chest pain in the Court Hall and came out.
He straightaway went to the Government Hospital, where he was provided first-aid and he then went to a private hospital in Hassan, where the doctors advised him to undergo angioplasty as there were blockages in the arteries.
But Dr. Shivakumar is said to have told the doctors that he would undergo the procedure in Mysuru and left Hassan in an ICU ambulance along with doctors and staff. It is learnt that Dr. Shivakumar collapsed on the way.
The ambulance reached the private hospital in city at about 9 pm yesterday and the doctors who checked him pronounced him as ‘Brought Dead.’
Condolence meet
Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held this morning at MMC&RI. The meet was attended by MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. Nanjaraj, doctors, teachers, staff and students of K.R. Hospital, Cheluvamba Hospital, PKTB Sanatorium and MMC&RI.
