Mysore/Mysuru: The Regional Institute of Education (RIE), NCERT, Mysuru, will celebrate its 60th Foundation Day tomorrow (Aug. 1) at 10 am in the Institute’s Technology Block Quadrangle.
Dr. Subramanian Swamy, former Union Minister, will be the chief guest and will deliver Sardar Panikkar Memorial Lecture. Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore (UoM), will be the guest of honour. Prof. Y. Sreekanth, Principal, RIE, Mysuru, will be present on the occasion. The Regional Institute of Education (erstwhile Regional College of Education) was established in 1963 with the primary objective of qualitative improvement of school education through innovative pre-service and in-service teacher training programmes and to undertake research, development and extension activities in the Southern Region. RIE has established itself as an Institute of repute in the area of School and Teacher Education. The Institute runs courses from Pre-Primary to Ph.D levels. Through Inter University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), RIE is also networking with all Teacher Education Institution in Southern Region and has launched several Certificate programmes. The Sardar Panikkar Memorial Lecture Series was introduced in 1964 in memory of the valuable services rendered by the late Sardar Panikkar for the development of education in India. As the Vice-Chancellor of UoM, he evinced deep interest in the development of RIE.
