Deputy CM Laxman Savadi to distribute 10,000 saplings; District Minister V. Somanna to confer ‘Parisara Poshaka’ awards
Mysuru: In an effort to save mother earth and to expand the green cover of Mysuru, several organisations have joined hands to launch ‘Hasiru Mysuru-Laksha Vruksha’ campaign in city on Sept.6.
Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, H.V. Rajeev of Rajeev Sneha Balaga said that Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade will inaugurate the campaign at Puttaraja Gawai Stadium in J.P. Nagar at 11 am tomorrow. Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, Isha Foundation’s Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and Avadhoota Datta Peetham’s junior pontiff Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji will grace the occasion. MLA S.A. Ramdas will preside.
Pointing out that the campaign is launched jointly by H.V. Rajeev Sneha Balaga, Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA), Patanjali Yoga Shikshana Samithi and Dharmasthala Gramabhivruddhi Yojane, he said that Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi will distribute 10,000 saplings to the public while District Minister V. Somanna will confer ‘Parisara Poshaka’ awards to tree campaigners.
Rajeev said that the campaign is aimed at planting at least 1 lakh saplings across the city which can acclimatise to local weather conditions.
Calling for the participation of every citizen in the drive, Rajeev said that all efforts will be made to make Mysuru the most eco-friendly city of the country.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha, Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, MLAs Tanveer Sait, G.T. Devegowda and L. Nagendra will be present. Environmentalist Shreekanth Bhat of ‘Koti Vrksha’ fame, retired Secretary of the Forest Department A.C. Lakshmana, Namma Mysuru Foundation’s Dasharath, Chamarajanagar’s Venkatesh and city’s well-known pharmacist N. Raghavan of Raghulal & Co., will be felicitated on the occasion, he said.
MDJA President C.K. Mahendra, Patanjali Yoga Shikshana Samithi’s M. Nagabhushan, former Mayors Purushotham and B.L. Bhyrappa were present at the press meet.
