Drive against beggary: Five minors, one kid rescued in Mysuru

Mysore/Mysuru:  A special drive was conducted by Mysuru District Women’s Police Station, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit  (AHTU), Special Juvenile Police Unit  (SJPU), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Don Bosco Makkalalaya, Destitute Rehabilitation Centre and Women and Child Development Department to eradicate beggary on Sept.13.

During the drive, a woman identified as Janaki who was indulging in begging, along with a kid near the bus stop in front of Bandipalya Gate was taken into custody. A case (FIR No. 37/ 2023) was booked against her under Sections 11 and 18 of Karnataka Prohibition of Beggary Act 1975.

Janaki and the kid were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) before sending them to State Home.

In another case of beggary near Bandipalya Gate, four minor children were rescued and produced before CWC and later sent to Government Children’s Home For Girls.

 Similarly, a 12-year-old girl, who was begging on Bazaar Road at Hunsur was rescued and produced before CWC and sent to Government Children’s Home for Girls.

Inspector of Women’s Police Station V.D. Mamatha, SIs Mallesh and Ammajan and staff Sarvath Afza, Sunil, Harish, Dakshayini and Ramprasad, Don Bosco’s Immanuel and Bharathi, staff of Destitute Rehabilitation Centre Shivakumar and DCPU Staff Padmashri and Devaki took part in the drive.

 SP Seema Latkar and Additional SP Dr. B.N. Nandini lauded the drive, according to a                          press release.
