Belagavi: The opening day of the Winter Session of the State Legislature at Suvarna Soudha, Belagavi, yesterday witnessed heated exchanges between the ruling Congress and the Opposition BJP in the Legislature Council as BJP members persisted with their demand for the resignation of Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George, who has been named as the first accused in the FIR filed by the CBI in connection with the suicide of Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy.
Soon as the Council proceedings began, Opposition leader in the Legislature Council K.S. Eshwarappa sought the resignation of K.J. George as the CBI has began investigation following a Supreme Court order in connection with the suicidal death of Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy.
Dy.SP Ganapathy, in an interview to a local TV Channel a couple of hours before committing suicide at a lodge in Madikeri in July 7, 2016, had blamed the then Home Minster K.J. George and Senior IPS Officers Pranob Mohanty and A.M. Prasad of harassment.
The CID, which probed the case, gave clean chit to the Minister and the two senior Police Officers, following which Ganapathy’s father Kushalappa moved the Supreme Court.
The Apex Court, which heard Kushalappa’s plea, directed the CBI to probe the case and submit a report within three months.
