Residents may hand over e-waste till Nov. 10
Mysore/Mysuru: Lions Club of Mysore West (LCMW) has been collecting electronic waste for recycling since last month. E-waste contains hazardous chemicals such as lead, mercury and cadmium which seep into the earth and contaminate both soil and underground water when landfilled, thus posing a risk to human health and wildlife.
Recycling e-waste ensures that these hazardous materials are disposed of safely and properly and recycling e-waste allows these materials to be recovered and reused, which helps to conserve the earth’s finite natural resources. Recycling e-waste requires less energy than manufacturing new products from raw materials. But manufacturing new products from raw materials generates greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change.
E-waste recycling industry creates jobs in collection, transportation, processing and manufacturing. E-waste may be handed over at the Collection Centre in Lions Sevaniketan School, Gokulam, till Nov. 10.
The e-waste eligible for recycling will be handed over to NPE Waste, a Government licensed recycler. The amount generated out of e-waste disposal will be utilised towards environment projects of LCMW in-line with Lions International cause of environment protection.
