New Delhi: In a rare instance, the Election Commission of India (ECI), responding to the demand of various political parties, re-scheduled the bypolls for 14 Assembly segments in three States.
As per an official announcement of the ECI, the bypolls in one Assembly segment in Kerala, four in Punjab and nine in Uttar Pradesh will take place on Nov. 20, instead of Nov. 13.
The bypolls has been rescheduled following demands from various parties including the Congress and BJP, which had cited various festivals in the period from Nov. 10 to 15.
However, there is no change in the bypolls schedule in Karnataka for the three Assembly segments of Channapatna, Shiggaon and Sandur, for which the polls are scheduled to be held on Nov.13.
The counting of votes in the Assembly segments bypolls of the country and the Assembly polls in Jharkhand and Maharashtra will be taken up on Nov. 23.
