Mysuru: A week-long workshop, organised by the Department of PU Education for PU College Economics Lecturers of Mysuru and Kodagu districts, commenced yesterday at Gopalaswamy PU College premises in Lakshmipuram here.
About 200 Economics Lecturers from the two districts are participating in the workshop who will be groomed on implementation of the new syllabus in Economics suggested by National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) by about 20 resource persons.
Inaugurating the programme, Mahajana College PG Centre Director Dr. C.K. Renukarya opined that the subject of Economics should be relevant to today’s economy in India. He contended that taking cues from western countries regarding economics would be just theoretical and of no practical value.
Renukarya pointed out that though Economics was a very important subject of study and application, the number and admissions to PG course in Economics at University of Mysore had drastically come down. He further said that Macro-Economics need more stress in studies and added that new theories of Applied Economics should be explored.
Karnataka State PU Economics Lecturers Forum President K. Shivegowda delivered the keynote address.
DDPUE Dr. Dayananda presided. MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadeesha was the chief guest. Gopalaswamy Institutions Secretary Manjunath, Workshop Convenor B.S. Jagadeesh and others were present.
