New Advisory Committee to guide Police Public School
Mysore/Mysuru: “Academics have been considered to be the most important aspect of one’s success and growth of mind. Through the years it has been proven that sports is equally important. Sports can not only build your physical health, but also mental health. Sports can also help one to deal with the mental stress of examination or academic pressure,” opined former international cricketer Javagal Srinath.
He was speaking after inaugurating a new Advisory Committee formed by Karnataka State Police Welfare and Education Trust at Police Public School auditorium in city yesterday. “Education and sports are complimentary to each other and importance must be given to both. Sports has always played an essential and effective role in the development of mind and body. Physical activity helps in making a person healthy and fit. It also helps one acquire logical reasoning and critical thinking,” Srinath said.
Both sports and academics have their own set of benefits that contribute to the nourishment of a child. No one has been able to say whether sport is greater than academics or academics is greater than sports. Such segregation is impossible to make. Academics and sports need to be placed rightly in a person’s life and given equal importance, he added.
Former athlete and Director of Karumbaiah Academy of Learning and Sports Ashwini Nachappa also stressed the need for treating sports equal to academics. “An institution’s competence will depend on its administration and Police Public School is doing a great job here,” she said.
JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) Pro-Chancellor Dr. B. Suresh said that students contribute immensely for the success of an institution. If there are no students, basic facilities, teachers and even administrative bodies have no role to play.
Presiding over the event, Hon. President of the Trust and Southern Range IGP Vipul Kumar said that in the Police Department, the constabulary that is 82 percent form the life support system of the Department. “It is our responsibility to ensure the welfare of the Constables and other ranking officers and their families. We need to shape the future of the children by giving them quality education. The Police Public School is leaving no stone unturned in this direction,” he added.
The newly-formed Advisory Committee will discuss ways and means to take Police Public School that has over 1,700 children towards greater heights. They will provide suggestions to the school management towards bringing change in the outlook and compete with other schools.
Head Master of Lawrence School in Ooty K. Prabhakaran Nair, Superintendent of Police C.B. Ryshyanth who is also the Hon. Secretary of the Trust, Principal of Police Public School Rennie Joseph Mendonca, KSRP Commandant R. Janardhan and others were present.
