Intention is to feature space agency in National Education Policy curriculum
Bengaluru: Primary and Secondary Education Minister B.C. Nagesh informed the media in Bengaluru yesterday that Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be consulted to include their achievements in school curriculum. He met ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Sivan and other scientists.
He held consultations with the ISRO Chairman on ways to inculcate scientific temper in the children, on simple methods to teach science and math and on updating them with scientific wonders around the world. A task force is constituted by the Government to prepare the new curriculum according to the National Education Policy (NEP).
Dr. Sivan informed the Minister that a Space-on-Wheels mobile exhibition on ISRO and its achievements is visiting schools in and around Bengaluru. A committee will be formed for the purpose by ISRO, said Nagesh.
He said that rural areas have extremely talented students. They ought to be given a good platform, opportunities and facilities for honing their knowledge.
“Subjects should be taught in a simple manner, even Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai should be able to understand them,” he said, adding that the NEP task force is working towards preparing textbooks accordingly. The future of the country lies in creating a Science-technology, Skills-based Education, Research and development mindset, he said.
