Mysore/Mysuru: An interaction with Dalits was organised by Metagalli Police at the residential complex built under JnNURM at Ekalavyanagar on Dec. 13 where the residents poured out their woes.
The interaction was held under the leadership of Metagalli Police Inspector A. Mallesh, Sub-Inspector K. Vishwanath and Dalit community leaders Nanjappa Basavanagudi, Ningaraj Malladi and Puttalakshmamma.
Inspector Mallesh asked the residents of the housing complexes to keep their surroundings clean and called upon men not to fall to vices like consuming alcohol. “You must ensure that children get good education and at the same time keep a watch on their progress socially and educationally. Do not allow them to take part in fights and advise them to abide by the law. Live in a harmonious manner and maintain a cordial relationship with neighbours and people living in other areas,” he said.
The Police Officer called upon the residents to keep an eye on anti-social and criminal activities and inform the Police about them. “Join hands with the Police to fight the evil of crime in the society,” he appealed.
Participating in the interaction, Dalit community members and general public aired a host of civic problems bothering their locality. There are no pure drinking water units at Ekalavyanagar even though the area is thickly populated. “We need Anganawadi Kendra, fair price shops. There is no regular clearance of garbage and sometimes the whole area stinks,” residents complained.
They also demanded the Mysuru City Corporation to issue title deeds for their houses and set up drinking water tubs for livestock. They also urged authorities to take steps to clear many loan applications that have been submitted by the residents.
Listening to their woes, the Police assured them that they will bring the issues to the attention of departments concerned.
