Elderly woman’s chain snatched at Agrahara

Mysore/Mysuru: An elderly woman lost her gold chain when a chain snatcher yanked it off when she was crossing the road at Agrahara Circle in city on Friday night.

The woman, who lost her gold chain, is 68-year-old M.V. Champakavalli, wife of Ramanujan, a resident of Thyagaraja Road, 2nd cross in city.

At about 9 pm on Friday, Chamkavalli, along with her daughter-in-law Lakshmi, had gone to a fruits and vegetables shop on the 3rd cross. After purchasing the desired quantity, Champakavalli was crossing the road to go to her daughter-in-law who was waiting on the other side of the road with her two-wheeler, when the chain snatcher, who came on a bike from Vani Vilas Double Road side, yanked off her 130-gram gold chain worth Rs. 5 lakh and sped away.

A few motorists, who heard Champakavalli scream for help, chased the chain snatcher, who sped away on the bike towards Ramaswamy Circle via Chamaraja Double Road. Public said that the chain snatcher was wearing a helmet and the bike did not have a number plate. KR Police have registered a case.
