Mysuru: In the elections to the Members of the Managing Committee of The Muslim Co-operative Bank Ltd., New Sayyaji Rao Road, Mysuru, held on Sunday between 9 am and 4 pm, all the nine candidates from the ruling group were elected.
As per the byelaw of the Bank, 13 Directors have to be elected — two seats reserved for women Directors, two reserved for Other Backward Class (OBC) “A” category and remaining nine seats for General Category.
G.C. Jyothi Urs, Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Mysuru, was the Returning Officer who conducted the election.
Two women candidates Irfana Azmi and Dr. Surriya Taranum, along with former Corporator K.C. Shoukath Pasha and Abdul Rahman Shariff, were elected unopposed while 12 candidates contested for the remaining nine Directors’ post.
Out of the total 5,228 voters, 1,843 cast their votes. General Manager of the Bank Fazlulla Shariff supervised the election process.
Former Minister and MLA Tanveer Sait, former MUDA Member N. Anwar Pasha (Annu), former Corporator Naseeruddin (Babu), Hazrath Moulana Mohamed Rafiuddin Qasmi Saheb, Khateeb O Imam, Masjid E Kuchi Memon, Taj Mohamed Khan, Hon. Secretary, Farooqia Institutions, who were the shareholders of the Bank, visited Vidyavardhaka Law College and cast their votes.
Arun Kumar Gowda, Inspector, Mandi Police Station and Basavaraj, Sub-Inspector, supervised the Police bandobust.
After the counting of votes, Returning Officer announced the names of the following nine candidates who got elected: Dr. Abdul Ravoof (1,470 votes), Dr. Muneer Ahmed (1,392), Mir Humayun (1,364), Ahmed Salim Ahmed (1,335), Iftekhar Ahmed Khan (1,333), Nisar Ahmed Khan (1,286), Mohamed Akram (1,240), Mohamed Abdul Salam (1,238) and Rahmath Ulla Shariff (1,215 votes).
