Election to four Rajya Sabha seats from State on June 19

Bengaluru: The election to four Rajya Sabha (RS) seats from the State that will fall vacant soon will be held on June 19.

The election will take place to the RS seats held by Prabhakar Kore of the BJP, B.K. Hariprasad and M.V. Rajivgowda of the Congress and Kupendra Reddy of the JD(S) who are going to retire in a few days after completion of their term.

Releasing the poll schedule in the State Capital on Tuesday, Vidhana Sabha Secretary and Electoral Officer M.K. Vishalakshi said that the nominations has begun from Tuesday (June 2) itself. The last date for filing of nomination papers is June 9 and the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place the following day (June 10). The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is June 12 and the poll will take place on June 19 between 9 am and 4 pm. The counting of votes will be taken up immediately after polling ends and the results would be announced the same day, she said.

With the announcement of the poll schedule, hectic political activities in all the three major parties (BJP, Congress and JD-S) has begun with keen aspirants lobbying to get their  party ticket. While the ruling BJP is certain to win two seats going by its numbers in the State Assembly, the Congress and the JD(S) are eyeing the two remaining seats.
