Encroachment and traffic issues near CFTRI School

Sir,

The footpath along the MCC Guest House, Agri-Horti Office and CFTRI School in the Vontikoppal area has been largely encroached by street vendors, leaving very little space for pedestrians. This has become a serious inconvenience, particularly for girl students of Maharani’s College of Commerce, who regularly walk from the Akashvani bus stop to their college and back. Similarly, schoolchildren and parents of CFTRI School are also facing daily difficulties navigating the area.

The problem is further aggravated by frequent traffic congestion and occasional accidents. The presence of temples around the junction draws heavy crowds during religious events, while vehicles parked along the road by visitors to nearby function halls make the situation even worse. Adding to the chaos, a parking area managed by the temple authorities contributes to further congestion.

In addition, stray cattle are often found blocking the road, making movement unsafe for both vehicles and pedestrians.

Behind the MCC Guest House are the Judges’ Quarters, and nearby unused buildings and structures have fallen into a state of neglect, now being misused as open urinals and cattle grazing spots. This issue had been highlighted earlier by concerned readers, yet no corrective measures have been taken so far.

I urge the Mysuru City Traffic Police and Mysuru City Corporation to clear the footpaths of street vendors immediately before a serious untoward incident occurs. The girl students of Maharani’s College, in particular, are at risk — forced to walk on the congested road, exposed to speeding vehicles and often subjected to uncomfortable stares from vendors as they pass through the area.

I sincerely hope this issue will be taken up on priority, and prompt action initiated to ensure the safety and convenience of the tax-paying public.
