Visvesvaraya’s statue sought at KRS Dam
Mysore/Mysuru: The Institution of Engineers (India), Mysore Local Centre, celebrated 54th Engineers Day and Birth Anniversary of Dr. Sir M. Visvesvaraya on Sept.15 at The Institution of Engineers (IE) on JLB Road in city.
Satyendra O. Devarakonde, Vice-President (Operations), VST Tillers and Tractors, Precision Components Division, Mysuru, who was the guest speaker, gave a technical presentation on the topic “Engineers for Skill Development and Employment in Combating COVID.”
He said engineers played a major role in the production of medical equipment like ventilators, oxygen plants, PPE kits, face shield and also in the production of Covid-19 vaccines.
Former Chairman of IE, Mysore Local Centre, M. Lakshmana, who also spoke on the occasion, said ‘Sir M. Visvesvaraya played an important role in the construction of Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam. But a few persons are opposing the installation of his statue near KRS Dam.’
‘Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and Sir M. Visvesvaraya played major roles in the construction of KRS Dam. Visvesvaraya strived to complete the Dam in a short duration. Hence, both their statues should be installed at KRS,” he observed.
Several dams in Karnataka are bigger, compared to KRS. But this Dam is of greater importance for providing water to 3.5 crore people. Besides, it is the main source of drinking water to Bengaluru, he added.
