Mysuru: Foreign students with foreign degrees aspiring to pursue post-graduation courses or Ph.D at the University of Mysore (UoM) should undergo a one-month compulsory English language bridge course from the academic year 2018-19.
The Academic Council approved the bridge course recommended by the Admission Reformation Regulation and Implementation Committee (ARRIC) at a meeting chaired by In-Charge Vice-Chancellor Prof. C. Basavaraju, here recently.
The students should complete the bridge course within three months of admission. Centre for Proficiency Development and Placement Services (CPDPS) will conduct the course. The Varsity will collect Rs. 5,000 per student for the course. However, foreign nationals with Indian degree need not undergo the bridge course.
According to Prof. Basavaraju, many foreign students are not good at English language because most of them come from under-developed nations. “So, it is a major challenge for the teaching faculty members as well as the guides. Most of the times, the students are not able to follow the lessons and guidance, due to lack of English skills,” he said.
