Environment Day celebrated at Daksha College

Mysore/Mysuru: Daksha College, Mysuru, celebrated World Environment Day on June 15 with the participation of Prof. Shyam Sundar Subbarao, Expert in Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies, K.C. Shivappa, poet, V. Srinivasa Raju, Environmental activist who has promoted greening and Prof. N.M. Talwar of University of Mysore.

The  programme was also attended by Chairman Jayachandra Raju, Principal Ratnakar Shanbag and Vice-Principal Md. Mubbashir.

Prof. Shyam Sundar gave an educative presentation and demo on Green Technologies for future.

He spoke on how to improve our environment by waste management and turn our daily waste into compost and grow their own vegetables using the regenerated manure for gardens. He shared his knowledge on biofuels and practical measures to reduce carbon footprints.

He emphasised on recycling and compost management at micro level, how to keep the campus and environment clean and green using the method of Recycle, Reuse and Reduce.

Srinivasa Raju shared his experiences on greening the earth with a note “students should develop the culture to nurture nature” which is the essence for sustainability of our future generations.

As is the Daksha tradition, the gardeners of the college were honoured for their valuable contribution in keeping the campus clean and green. The gardeners take on the role of parents with dedication to nurture the plants, opined Jayachandra Raju.

Competitions were held for students to enable creativity and initiative thoughts to bring out the ‘Best Out of Waste.’ Winning students were awarded.
