Mysuru: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), National Service Scheme (NSS) wing of University of Mysore (UoM) and Department of Environmental Science, Mahajana College, together had organised a district-level workshop on ‘Laws related to environment conservation and consumer protection’ at the College premises in Jayalakshmipuram here recently.
Inaugurating the programme, Principal District and Sessions Judge S.K. Vontigodi bemoaned that despite existence of laws to protect the environment, the destruction is still going on.
He attributed the recent natural calamities to the selfishness and greed of humans. The natural resources are being exploited which may one day lead to a point of no return, warned Vontigodi.
Switching to consumer protection, Vontigodi asked consumers to demand a receipt on every purchase made at a shop which is a right of every consumer.
He asserted that a consumer can always file a legal suit against the shop owner for poor quality of product purchased.
DLSA Member-Secretary B.P. Devamane, Mysore IQ Plus Academy Chairman Srikanth Bhat, College Principal Dr. S. Venkataram, CEO Dr. S.R. Ramesh and others were present.
