In a ‘current’ shock for power consumers, all the five Escoms (Electricity Supply Companies) of the State have hiked power tariff with effect from July 1. The hike varies with each Escom. Bengaluru-based Bescom has made the highest hike of 55.28 paise per unit, while Mangaluru-based Mescom recorded the lowest hike of 38.98 paise. The hike comes after the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) approved the proposal from Escoms seeking tariff hike in order to meet rising operating costs. In Mysuru, Chescom (Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company-CESC) has hiked tariff by 40.47 paise a unit. Kalaburagi’s Gescom has hiked tariff by 39.36 paise a unit, while Hubbali’s Hescom has raised tariff by 49.54 paise per unit.
