Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Food Science and Nutrition at Yuvaraja’s College, Mysuru, had recently organised a programme to commemorate ‘Breastfeeding Week’, ‘Nutrition Month’ and ‘Vidhaayam’. The event took place at Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Auditorium of the College.
The event aimed to raise awareness about nutrition, health and proper feeding practices among parents in society. Prof. T.R. Maruthi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor of the Department of Law and Director of the School of Law at the University of Mysore, was the chief guest.
During his speech, Prof. Maruthi shared his insights on various aspects of life, including law, humanity and sustainability in food production to align with the Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. He discussed the role of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Right to Food, the Food Security Act, and the significance of mother and child health.
Emphasising the importance of nutrition in daily life, he highlighted that breast milk is not only a nutritious food for babies but also a symbol of a mother’s affection.
The programme also included ‘Vidhaayam,’ dedicated to bidding farewell to the outgoing under-graduate and post-graduate students of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition. Prof. Maruthi motivated the students by drawing inspiration from the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata, encouraging them to exhibit determination and achieve success in their lives.
