Napier, New Zealand: The first One Day International of the five-match series between India and New Zealand was halted today due to a bizarre reason as the players left the field due to excessive sunlight. Shikhar Dhawan was the batsman who went to the umpire to talk about the same as he wasn’t able to spot the ball. Later, umpires seemed to agree with the left-hander’s complaint and asked the players to walk off the field.
This is not the first time when the play was stopped due to excessive sunlight during a cricket match. During a Super Smash match between Central Stags and Canterbury Kings last week, the play was stopped due to excessive sunlight.
In 2018, a match between Kent Spitfires and Essex Eagles in UK was also halted due to sunlight.
India were 44/1 at the time when play was stopped. Earlier, Indian bowlers came up with a tidy bowling display to bowl Kiwis out for a below-par 157.
