Faculty Development Programme: Dental Education Unit inaugurated

Mysuru: The Dental Education Unit (DEU), Centre for Continuous Learning for Professional Excellence (CCLPE), was inaugurated at JSS Dental College & Hospital, JSS University, recently. Also, a Faculty Development Workshop was held on the occasion. Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS University, was the chief guest. Dr. Prashanth Vishwanth, Convener, CCLPE, was the guest of honour. Dr. Anil Kumar Gujjari, Principal, Dr. M.R. Dakshaini, Vice-Principal and Dr. Sunila B. Sangappa, Convener-DEU, JSSDCH, were present.  

Dr. Manjunatha expressed the need, “to unlearn to learn” to become competent educators. The dignitaries also opined of having DEU at every dental institution, as a platform for nurturing teaching skills for health professionals.

DEU web page at JSS University online providing details of the roles, activities and plan ahead for the benefit of the audience was also launched.

Dr. Anil Kumar mentioned that the aim of this CCLPE unit is to keep the faculty updated with the newer technologies and educational innovations followed globally for better understanding of the subject by the students and guide them towards success.

This programme was followed with the workshop titled “Fundamental of Dental Education Technologies” for the faculty participants of JSSDCH. Resource personnel Dr. Sunila B. Sangappa, Associate Professor, Department of Prosthodontics & Crown and Bridge, JSSDCH and Dr. Praveen Kulkarni, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, JSSMC, facilitated the topics on Group dynamics, Adult learning principles, Goals-objectives-competencies and interactive methods in teaching learning and assessment.

Active and enthusiastic participation of the faculty across full-day workshop was highly appreciated.

Dr. M. Manthappa, Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, JSSMC, during the valedictory, congratulated the efforts of DEU, JSSDCH, for this initiative and emphasised that it is important for every faculty to revive  their teaching and learning skills.
