Hunsur: A conman posing as a Motor Vehicle Inspector has duped three job aspirants to the tune of Rs.18.58 lakh.
Akash, of Annur village in H.D. Kote taluk is the conman, while the victims are identified as Rangaswamy, a KSRTC Conductor of Kallimuddanahalli in Arakalgud taluk of Hassan district, his brother Shankar, a car driver and Ashok, a relative.
Rangaswamy, a conductor attached to KSRTC Periyapatna KSRTC depot, was on duty on a M.M. Hills bound bus in October 2021, when Akash who was a passenger, introduced himself as a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) of Chamarajanagar RTO.
After the introduction, Akash told Rangaswamy that he is an influential staff of the RTO and has close contacts with top officers and recruitment section. He also told Rangaswamy that he was capable of getting him (Rangaswamy) a MVI post and his friends too jobs in the Government. Wholly, believing Akash, Rangaswamy’s brother Shankar, who was working as a car driver, too contacted him and sought him a driver’s job in KSRTC. Subsequently, Akash also went to Rangaswamy’s native village and assured his parents on getting a Government job for the couple’s sons.
After discussions and negotiations, Akash promised to get a MVI post for Rangaswamy and his relative Ashok and a car driver’s job at the RTO office for Shankar. Thereafter, Akash received a total of Rs. 16 lakh from the three at a private hotel in Hunsur town on Dec. 12, 2021.
Subsequently, Akash gave appointment letters and as well as an Identity Card (ID) to all the three in just a matter of three days, following which he also brought them to Mysuru and got them the official MVI uniform and badge at a shop near Lashkar Police Station, after receiving another Rs.2.58 from the three as cost of the uniform and badge.
Delighted after getting the ‘appointment letter, ID Card, uniform and badge’ and totally convinced of having landed a ‘Government job’, all the three – Rangaswamy, Shankar and Ashok went to Chamarajanagar RTO to ‘report’ for duty a few days ago, when to the shock of their life, they discovered that the appointment letters were fake and no appointments were there for the asking.
Realising, that they have been totally fooled and duped of money by Akash, the three lodged a complaint with the Hunsur Town Police, who have registered a case and are investigating.
