Fake vehicle registration racket at work in Kodagu

Mysuru: Even as Kodagu seems to have got over the fury of heavy rains and wind,  a fake vehicle registration racket seems to be active in this naturally beautiful district. The racket came to light when  the Registration Card (RC) of a two-wheeler was checked for it’s authenticity.

A two-wheeler owner of  Hodavada near Napoklu had registered his vehicle at the Madikeri RTO Office on May 29, 2019, with the help of a broker and was given the RC of his two-wheeler bearing Registration Number KA-12-U-9999. The two-wheeler owner took the bike to Mysuru recently, when some of his friends expressed doubt about the registration number.

The vehicle owner after returning to Madikeri, handed over the RC card to the Supervisor at the RTO Office for  scrutinising the document. After a thorough check, Shivanna, the RTO Supervisor found that the registration number was not  issued by Madikeri RTO Office and also the ‘U’ series was yet to begin. Soon, the RTO officials compounded the RC card of the two-wheeler and questioned the owner, who failed to give a   convincing reply.

Madikeri Regional Transport Officer Manjunath Shirali said that his office has issued a notice to the two-wheeler owner to which the owner has said that he will reply in a week. Two senior officials — Shivanna and Shivakumar have been assigned the task of investigating the matter, he added.

As soon as the incident  came to light, people have begun to wonder whether there are many such cases in the district and a thorough probe can unearth whether a fake vehicle registration racket is operating in                the district.
