Farewell to a gentleman politician Vasu

Sir,

Bhamy V. Shenoy has provided a commendation of Vasu’s invaluable service to Mysuru and I have nothing more to add to it (SOM dated Mar. 10). As an individual, Vasu emanated an air of genteelness, never appearing rushed and always willing to lend an ear. During my morning walks in Manasagangothri, I encountered him on numerous occasions, greeted by his captivating smile as he leisurely ambled with his companions.

I fondly recall sharing meals with him in his home alongside my wife. Our communication was frequent and during his tenure publishing the ‘Mysore Mail’, my ‘Letters to the Editor’ column consistently found its place.

His dedication to societal welfare was his guiding principle; neither acclaim nor recognition held sway over him. Despite his significant accomplishments, he carried himself with humility, in stark contrast to many other politicians, eschewing arrogance and embodying the epitome of a gentleman.

Moreover, he was always prompt in responding to telephone calls. With his passing, Mysuru has bid farewell to a gentleman politician.
